United States
NCAA Division I, II & III
Division I and II programs can offer athletic scholarships. Division III programs do not offer athletic aid.
NAIA
Four-year colleges with their own eligibility process, separate from the NCAA.
Junior college (NJCAA / CCCAA)
Two-year programs, often used as a route to four-year schools.
Canada
U SPORTS
University basketball, with its own academic eligibility and athletic-aid rules.
CCAA
College-level competition through provincial conferences.
Prep & post-grad
Extra development years before a college commitment. These can affect eligibility timelines.
Academic eligibility
The NCAA Eligibility Center reviews core courses and GPA. Players from Canada and other countries submit international transcripts.
Amateurism
NCAA Division I and II prospects need amateurism certification. Club, prep and pro exposure can all matter.
Contact rules
Contact periods and allowed communication differ by association, division and grad year. HOP routes every contact request, so programs stay responsible for their own compliance.
